Volunteering

Volunteer Corner

Each month activities needing volunteers will be highlighted. This month help is needed for:

Art Framers:
Do you have framing skills? Or maybe you just have a cool frame lying around the house?
Date/Time: At your convenience and at your home

Local artist Nikki McClure gave Pioneer the hens she cut out at the school assemblies in the fall. They are already mounted on paper and would look great framed and displayed in the school library. Would you be willing to help out? Please contact our school librarian, Annette McQueen at amcqueen@osd.wednet.edu for more information.

Library Helper for Reshelving Books:
Date/Time: Ongoing at Pioneer, at a time that works for you.

Ms. McQueen is look for a volunteer to pick up a recently opened opportunity to help with shelving library books. The volunteer can pick his/her own day and time and will receive free training and much gratitude. Please contact Annette McQueen at amcqueen@osd.wednet.edu for more information. Email above.

Auction:
The Pioneer auction will be held in either March or April. The auction is our only fundraiser for the school so it is very important that it is successful. As the date gets closer, there will be many areas in which help is needed. Currently, the main concern for the auction is procurement. Anyone interested in helping with procurement, knows some places to procure from (connections), or would like to be given a local business list of 5-10 places to contact can get in touch with Sonia Allen (allensc@comcast.net), Kristina Hermach (kristina.hermach@comcast.net), or Nicole Williams (epwilliams@comcast.net).

Homework Club:
Homework Club is seeking adult volunteers from both our Pioneer and greater communities! This club will meet three times each week from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is a unique opportunity for students to work one-on-one with both adults and high school volunteers to practice and increase their skills in all academic areas. The minimum commitment is half an hour of your time once a month. The difference you'll make for our children is forever!

On-site childcare is an available option for those parents who wish to volunteer and have toddlers or preschoolers.

Contact Principal Chris Woods, 596-6500 (cwoods@osd.wednet.edu) or Carrie Cortes-Monroy, 570-0093 (ccortes-monroy@msn.com).

Escrip Coordinator: A volunteer is needed to be in charge of registering Safeway cards so that Pioneer can earn contributions. This is an easy way for Pioneer to earn money.

Ink Cartridge Recycling: There is a collection box in the office for parents to donate their used ink cartridges. These ink cartridges are then recycled to earn money for Pioneer. We need someone to be in charge of letting everyone know about the box and also to mail the cartridges to the company.

Passport Checkers: Passport checkers meet at school once a month, usually the last Friday, from 8:55-11:00 A.M. Checkers quiz the students individually (and gently!) on their knowledge of that month’s countries. Answer maps are provided; no special knowledge is required. Checkers are needed through the school year, so even if you can only help once, your presence is appreciated. The more people involved the better and faster it goes.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these roles, or if you just want more information, please contact Tiffin Moreno, volunteer coordinator, at tiffin@pioneerpta.com or 753-6401. Please keep in mind that without your help, many events that are sponsored by the PTA will not be able to happen. Thanks for making our PTA great!
